IFO kicks off nationwide aquatic resource restoration program

Tehran - The Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) has initiated its annual aquatic resource restoration program, aiming to replenish fish stocks across the country's waters.

Naser Karami-Rad, Director General of the Office for the Reconstruction and Preservation of Aquatic Genetic Resources, announced this, saying that the restoration efforts began in late February/early March 2025 and are scheduled to continue through late July 2025.

He explained that the Iran Fisheries Organization is conducting these restoration measures through 13 national centers strategically located across the Caspian Sea, inland waters, the Persian Gulf, and the Sea of Oman.

He further highlighted the significant achievements of these restoration centers in the Iranian year 1403 (ending March 2025), saying over 451.7 million bony and sturgeon fish had been released into the nation's water bodies as part of the Seventh Development Plan.

The Director General also clarified that the target for the 1403 program was to breed and release approximately 322 million juvenile fish, a goal that has been exceeded by 140 percent.
