Head of Iran’s PPO addresses SCO plant quarantine summit in China
Tianjin – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) convened a major summit on multilateral cooperation in plant quarantine in Tianjin, China, with the participation of senior officials from member states, including the Head of Iran’s Plant Protection Organization.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the summit took place on Tuesday and culminated in the signing of a joint declaration to strengthen collaboration among SCO countries in safeguarding plant health and enhancing phytosanitary measures.
Maryam Jalili-Moghaddam, the Head of Iran’s Plant Protection Organization (PPO), addressed the gathering as the second speaker.
In her remarks, she emphasized the critical need for enhanced regional cooperation in combating transboundary plant pests and diseases.
She also underscored the importance of timely information-sharing and early warning systems to ensure effective responses.
Delegates from SCO member states called for greater integration of modern technologies—including artificial intelligence and advanced diagnostic tools—to improve the speed and accuracy of plant quarantine processes. They also advocated for the development of electronic phytosanitary certification systems, with these priorities formally reflected in the summit’s joint declaration.
