Gilan – The northern Gilan Province has emerged as the leading center for restoring aquatic resources in northern Iran, contributing 12% to the Caspian Sea’s restocking programs.

 

With over 150 million juvenile fish released and three major restoration centers in operation, Gilan plays a pivotal role in sustaining fish populations and supporting biodiversity.

 

According to Kourosh Khalili, Director General of Gilan Fisheries, fishermen’s participation in restocking efforts has risen by 4% compared to last year, reflecting stronger community engagement in marine conservation. Of the province’s 47 fishing companies, 30 are actively involved in these initiatives.

 

With continued scientific investment and cooperation between local fishermen and authorities, Gilan’s fisheries sector is expected to strengthen food security and enhance Iran’s leadership in regional aquatic restoration.
