East Azarbaijan exports first batch of rainbow trout to Iraq
Tabriz – Iran’s East Azarbaijan province has successfully exported its first shipment of rainbow trout to Iraq, according to a provincial official.
Javad Gozli, Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Affairs at the East Azerbaijan Agricultural Organization, confirmed that an initial consignment of 350 kilograms of live rainbow trout was shipped to Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
“This pioneering export marks the beginning of a broader trade initiative, with plans underway to send an additional 30 metric tons in subsequent phases, based on market demand assessments.” Gozli underscored the strategic importance of fisheries in driving investment, job creation, and foreign currency revenue for the province.
With over 7,000 tons of cold-water fish produced in the current Iranian year (2024-2025), the sector has already created 900 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs, strengthening local livelihoods, he said.
