Annual rice output projected to reach 2.7m tons

Tehran – Iranian rice farmers are celebrating a bountiful harvest this year, as annual rice production is expected to reach a new high of 2.7 million tons, according to the director of Agriculture Ministry’s Wheat and Rice Plan.
Sohrab Sohrabi has revealed that 70 percent of the total rice production will originate from local cultivars, while the remaining 30 percent will be attributed to high-yielding varieties.
Notably, the production of white rice is expected to experience a substantial surge of 700,000 tons compared to the preceding year, he added.
Iran currently allocates approximately 750,000 hectares of its agricultural land to rice cultivation. A significant portion of this area, totaling 520,000 hectares, is concentrated in the northern provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, and Golestan.
