AEOI head highlights importance of radiation tech in agriculture
Ardebil – Radiation technology plays a vital role in improving the quality of agricultural products, reducing waste, and boosting productivity, according to the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Northwest Radiation Center in Ardabil Province, Mohammad Eslami expressed gratitude for the launch of the facility - the eighth of twelve planned regional irradiation hubs - attended by the Minister of Agriculture, the Governor of Ardebil, and members of the Iranian Parliament representing the province.
Highlighting the importance of nuclear applications in agriculture, he described nuclear technology as “a pioneering and life-enhancing industry.”
The Iranian nuclear chief explained that radiation technology benefits the entire agricultural cycle — from seed to final product — by eliminating pests, improving plant resistance to drought, water scarcity, and soil salinity, and extending product shelf life.
These advancements, he added, help prevent agricultural waste and promote sustainable productivity across the sector.
