Russia Agriculture Ministry proposes to Iran to establish joint program to breed chickens

Moscow - Russia's Agriculture Ministry has proposed that the delegation of Iran's agricultural ministry consider the possibility of establishing a joint program to breed chickens, a report said.
It was announced by the Russian ministry in a press release issued following talks between Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut and Iran's Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri.
"The Russian minister noted the need to expand collaboration between the two countries' scientific organizations, including in the area of breeding and seed production of varieties and hybrids of crops grown in Iran and Russia. Another area of cooperation could be joint projects in the field of animal genetics," according to the press release, Interfax reported.
“Iran is currently fully provided with its own poultry, and Russia has successful developments in the area as well. The meat cross Smena-9 has competitive potential and is similar to Western hybrids,” Lut said.
She further suggested that the Iranian side consider the possibility of creating a joint program to breed chickens.
It was emphasized during the meeting that Iran is an important and major partner of Russia in the agricultural sector. Trade in agricultural products accounts for over 60% of the overall trade turnover between the countries, according to the press release.
