Tehran - A consultation meeting on the latest developments within the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was held in Tehran with representatives from various government bodies, including Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture.

 

Established in 1997, IORA is a regional organization of 23 member states focused on economic and social cooperation across the Indian Ocean region, with priorities including maritime security, trade and investment, fisheries, disaster management, science and technology, and women’s economic empowerment.

 

Iran, a member since 1999, has played an active role in the organization, chairing the Working Group on Women’s Economic Empowerment for two consecutive terms (2021–2025) and leading the IORA Academic Group for 2023–2025. Tehran has also hosted IORA’s Regional Centre for Science and Technology Transfer since 2007.

 

Iran is currently a candidate, alongside Mauritius, for the position of IORA Vice-Chair for the 2025–2027 term.
