Fars – A new national study across 13 regions reveals that smart management of altitude, temperature, and nutrition can dramatically boost Iran's saffron yields.

 

Researcher Hadi Pirasteh-Anousheh said the three climate keys are altitudes above 1,000m, cool autumns for flowering, and warm sunny springs for corm energy.

 

“But smart soil and irrigation management, especially light texture and pH balance, are just as crucial. Balanced fertilizers combined with processed manure improve soil structure and trigger production surges,” he added.

 

“Saffron yields rise until year 6–7, then decline. But with proper care, farms stay profitable until year 10.”

 

One promising finding is that rainfed saffron farming in Zagros regions could slash costs and maximize water use, the official noted.
