Razi Institute can meet 70 percent of Iran’s poultry vaccine needs: MP

Tehran – Iran's Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute has the capacity to supply up to 70 percent of the country's poultry vaccine requirements, a lawmaker said during a visit to the institute.

Ezatollah Habibzadeh, representative of Marand and Jolfa in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, met with Razi Director Ali Eshaghi and Marand branch head Razzaq Hosseinpour.

He praised the institute's role in producing human, livestock, and poultry vaccines, and called for a halt to unnecessary imports to support domestic production.

"Razi provides about 70 to 80 percent of the vaccines and biological products needed in Iran's medical and veterinary sectors, and has significant export potential for some products," Habibzadeh said.

"Currently, 35 percent of the country's poultry vaccines come from Razi. That can rise to 70 percent, if we stop unnecessary imports and fully back local production," he added.

"The Razi brand is well-known and respected in Iran and the region. Parliament, especially the Agricultural Commission, must step up to strengthen this institution," Habibzadeh said.
