Mashhad — With a herd of more than 12,000 camels, Iran's northeasternKhorasan Razavi provinceis well positioned to expand sustainable livestock production and strengthen food security, a provincial agricultural official said.

 

Bardaskan County, home to 3,570 camels, ranks first in the province in camel farming, according to the Livestock Affairs Director of Khorasan Razavi’s Agricultural Organization, according to a report carried by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.

 

The province currently produces more than one ton of camel milk and around 2.5 tons of camel meat per day.

 

The official said camel farming offers significant potential for sustainable agricultural development due to camels’ strong adaptability to harsh climatic conditions, lower water requirements, and ability to produce high-value food products, making the sector an important contributor to employment, sustainable production, and food security in Iran.
