Kalat - The head of the Agricultural Department in Kalat, located in Khorasan Razavi province, underscored the economic benefits of genetic improvement in livestock during a visit to a farm specializing in breeding animals carrying the fecB gene.

 

Mr. Khaleghi explained that Kalat’s livestock-based economy requires the integration of multiple-birth genes to boost productivity.

 

“Animals carrying the fecB gene, whether homozygous or heterozygous, can, by the second generation, produce offspring with multiple-birth potential, creating new income opportunities for farmers,” he said.

 

Khaleghi noted that selective breeding of small ruminants has been a key priority in the Ministry of Agriculture’s policies for several years, building on the region’s strong livestock-farming traditions.
