President Raisi calls for enhanced ties between Iran, Sri Lanka

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized the strong and growing relationship between Iran and Sri Lanka, highlighting the potential for expanding cooperation in various fields, including politics, economics, trade, culture, agriculture, tourism, and technology.

"Iran has established good ties with Sri Lanka since the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Our relations and cooperation are developing. Current bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and commercial, cultural, agricultural, tourism and technology sectors can be expanded,” President Raisi said during a press conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart.

He added that the establishment of the Iran-Sri Lanka Joint Commission is a step towards further strengthening ties between the two countries.

Raisi arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday on the second leg of his regional tour, which took him to Pakistan earlier, IRNA reported.

In continuation of the visit by President Raisi and the high-ranking political and economic delegation accompanying him to Sri Lanka, five cooperation documents were signed between the two countries in the fields of culture, cinema, tourism, and science and technology.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Raisi said the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to assist Sri Lanka on the path of progress.

Raisi made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Project, one of the largest irrigation projects in Sri Lanka, on Wednesday.
