Iran sees boom in medicinal herb exports, reaching $550m in 2023

Iran's medicinal herb exports reached $550 million in 2023 (March 21, 2023 to March 19, 2024), according to the head of the agricultural commission of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), Mohammad Ali Rezaei.
Rezaei, speaking at the sidelines of the "Iran Agrofood 2024" exhibition, highlighted the growing importance of medicinal herbs for the Iranian economy. He noted that these exports reach European countries, China, and many Arab nations.
Saffron remains a major player, accounting for 60% of medicinal herb exports, while other herbs make up the remaining 40%.
Looking ahead, Rezaei expressed optimism for the current year (starting March 21, 2024) due to the increased rainfall. He expects these favorable conditions to lead to higher quality and crop yields.
