Iran celebrates wheat self-sufficiency with record production

Tehran – Iran is set to celebrate self-sufficiency in wheat production this year, with the country's agriculture ministry projecting a record harvest of over 15 million tons of wheat.
Sohrab Sohrabi, the executive director of the wheat project at the Ministry of Agriculture, announced that as of October 1st, the government had purchased a guaranteed 11.975 million tons of wheat from farmers, representing a 16% increase compared to the same period last year.
He further noted that Iran's annual wheat demand stands at 11.5 million tons, with 10 million tons required for bread production and 1.5 million tons for industrial use.
Regarding wheat seeds, the official stated that the government has already purchased 500,000 tons of improved seeds, including breeder, foundation, and certified varieties.
This significant achievement in wheat production is a result of various government initiatives and favorable agricultural conditions. It is expected to bolster Iran's food security and reduce its reliance on wheat imports.
