Hamedan still Iran’s leading potato production hub, official says
Hamedan - Hamedan Province has once again strengthened its role as the country’s primary center for potato cultivation, producing nearly one million tons through expanded autumn planting, according to the head of the Hamedan Potato Growers’ Union.
Kazem Reyhani highlighted the Ministry of Agriculture’s key contributions, including the provision of essential inputs, production of certified seeds, support for processing industries, and the establishment of a plant quarantine post.
These efforts, he said, have significantly boosted production capacity and facilitated smoother export pathways for local farmers.
Hamedan is expected to harvest around 950,000 tons of potatoes this year. So far, approximately 50,000 tons have been exported to countries such as Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and several Persian Gulf states. Export volumes are forecast to reach 70,000–75,000 tons by year’s end.
