Hamedan – The western Hamedan province produces more than 1,000 tons of Damask roses each year across 460 hectares of rose gardens, a local agricultural official said.

 

Behrouz Forouzanfar, Director of Horticulture at Hamedan's Agriculture Organization, said that most rose gardens are in Malayer, Bahar, and Tuyserkan.

 

“Cultivation area grew slowly to 95 hectares by 2016, then surged dramatically from 2018 onward. Damask roses from the province are processed into fresh and dried flowers, dried buds, rosewater, and essential oil, sold locally and in other provinces including Tehran.”

 

The official further said that average yields are 2,000 liters of rosewater, two tons of fresh flowers, and 350 kg of dried roses per hectare; This year, Hamedan expects to produce 650,000 liters of rosewater, three liters of essential oil, 10 tons of dried roses, and 2.5 tons of dried buds. Over 65 processing units are active in the province.
