Gorgan – Shrimp harvesting has begun in Iran’s northern Golestan Province, with annual production expected to exceed 4,000 tons as the province expands its processing capacity and export markets.

 

Esmaeil Jabbari, director general of Golestan Fisheries, said production conditions have been favorable this year and farmers are expected to deliver high-quality shrimp to domestic and international markets.

 

He identified Russia, the UAE, Oman and Qatar as the province’s main export destinations, adding that part of Golestan’s processed shrimp is also exported to China.

 

The province has eight shrimp processing centers with a combined capacity of 10,000 tons, directly employing around 2,000 people each day. About 80 percent of processed shrimp is destined for foreign markets, Jabbari said.

 

He also highlighted the Mishan Shrimp Complex in Golestan’s border area, saying the project has transformed a once barren, dust-prone area into a major shrimp production center while creating jobs and stimulating local economic activity.

 

Jabbari said further investment in aquaculture infrastructure, processing facilities and export markets could strengthen the sector’s contribution to economic development in Golestan’s rural and border communities.
