Iran, Uzbekistan to strengthen agricultural ties

Tehran - Iranian Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri met with Uzbek Ambassador Nasriev Fariddin Badriddinovich to discuss expanding agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting in Tehran on Thursday, Nouri emphasized Iran's ability to provide Uzbekistan with technical expertise, training, and research in areas like livestock breeding and drip irrigation.

He praised the initiative of both nations' leaders to strengthen bilateral ties and highlighted the shared cultural and historical bonds between the two countries.

Iran offered to share its agricultural technology, including low-cost greenhouse construction, cold storage facilities, food processing, and agricultural disinfection techniques.

The minister noted that the current level of economic exchange between the two countries doesn't fully reflect their potential and that the $2 billion trade target set by the two nations' presidents will be a significant step forward.

The Uzbek ambassador, for his part, expressed his country's interest in cooperating with Iran in seven key areas: modern irrigation, cultivation of drought-resistant crops like pistachios, greenhouse technology, agricultural equipment manufacturing, poultry and turkey production, animal feed, and livestock and aquaculture research.
