President calls for climate-smart agriculture to combat water crisis

Tehran – The Iranian President has demanded a comprehensive overhaul of agricultural planning, emphasizing the need for a national data system and climate-appropriate cultivation patterns.
In a recent surprise visit to the Ministry of Agriculture, Masoud Pezeshkian warned that ignoring water and soil resources in development efforts is unsustainable, and ordered immediate action to address the nation's agricultural challenges.
He said that soil and water management, the type of the crops that are decided to be cultivated, their quality and quantity, as well as the way they are distributed and supplied, are all critical issues that should be addressed to boost the agriculture sector.
The president also highlighted the need to revise water and soil management practices as part of other efforts to boost the agricultural sector and support farmers.
