The cherry is scientifically named Prunus avium from Prunus genus, Rosaceae family and is Peronoid subfamily. This plant is among the flowering and unseen seed plants. Cherry is one of the important, attractive and economically valuable crops in the world. First evidence of using cherry as a food source goes back to 5,000 BC. More than two thousand years is now passed since cherry’s cultivation, but in recent decades, with the introduction of new crop resistant varieties and shortened bases, this product has expanded remarkably in the globe.
Major Producer Provinces:
Tehran (22%), Alborz (14%), Khorasan Razavi (12%), Qazvin (11%), Mazandaran (9%) and East Azarbaijan (3%) are the major producers of cherries in the country.
