Hormozgan - Iran has managed to export $222 million worth of hairtail fish caught from the country’s southern waters to China, according to the Director General of Hormozgan Fishery Department.

 

Masoud Barani said that the hairtail fish species is not used for domestic consumption and is exported exclusively for industrial and food processing purposes.

 

He noted that all fish products are subjected to comprehensive microbial and chemical testing and exported under strict sanitary supervision after receiving official health certification.

 

According to Barani, the Persian Gulf, particularly the waters off Parsian, Bandar Lengeh, and the southern coast of Qeshm Island, are among the main fishing areas for hairtail in Hormozgan Province.

 

The fishing season begins in April and continues until the end of February each year.

 

He added that hairtail stocks represent one of the key marine protein resources, found widely across tropical and subtropical waters, with the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman among the world’s richest fishing zones for this species.

 

Barani further said that hairtail fishing is conducted through midwater trawling, with over 90 percent of the catch being purposeful and high-quality.
