Iran exporting hybrid seed corn to 5 countries, official
says 

Iran is currently exporting hybrid seed corn to five
countries, according to Director General of the Agriculture Ministry's Grains
and Essential Goods Department Faramak Aziz-Karimi. 

“98 percent of the country’s
agricultural crop seed is produced domestically under the supervision of
Iranian experts,” Aziz-Karimi said on Wednesday. 

She added, “Every year we plant some two million tons of
seeds, which account for 80 percent of our farming sector’s output. We import
only 5,000 tons of seeds annually”. 

"Currently, Iran is an exporter of potato and corn
seeds, and sugar beet seeds account for the biggest share of imports of
seeds," the official highlighted.  

hybrid seed corn is the
offspring of two pure genetic lines of corn, also known as inbred parents. The
notion of corn having offspring and talk of genetic lines may seem odd. But
this is something that researchers have put significant time and effort into
over the last century.
