Iran, Uzbekistan agree to boost agricultural ties
Iran and Uzbekistan agreed to develop and deepen bilateral
relations in various agricultural sectors.
In a meeting held between Iran’s Deputy Minister of
Agriculture Mojtaba Khayyam Nekouei and the head of the Iran-Uzbekistan Trade
Center in Tashkent on Saturday, the two sides emphasized expanding and
deepening mutual ties in the field of agriculture and transfer of science and
technical know-how.
Referring to the capabilities of the scientists and
researchers at the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization
(AREEO), he said, “We are ready to expand our cooperation with the Iran-Uzbekistan
Trade Center in all areas, particularly in the sector of fishery and
aquaculture”.
He added that the two countries can also cooperate in the
field of potato minituber production, which is the first step in seed potato
production.
Minitubers are grown in greenhouses and then replanted in
fields to be multiplied before being sold to commercial potato growers.
As part of an agreement signed between the two sides, seven
Uzbek researchers will be sent to Iran to receive training and technical assistance
in the sector of agriculture.
