Investigating the ways of developing Iran-Switzerland
agricultural cooperation
Seyed Javad Sadati Nejad, Minister of Jihad for Agriculture
of Iran, in a meeting with Andreas Aebi, President of the Swiss National
Council, in Tehran, stated that: Given the positive view of the Iranian people
towards Switzerland and its position in the world, interaction and cooperation
in the field of agriculture between the two countries can be good and
development-oriented.
He then added: Due to climate diversity, Iran has great
potential in the field of agriculture, and the other side, i.e. Switzerland,
has good capabilities in the field of technology and development. Dr. Sadai
Nejad also mentioned that: In recent years, in the field of phytosanitary, such
as the production of seeds and pesticides, exchanges have taken place between
the two countries, and Swiss companies have continued to cooperate with Iran.
The minster of Jihad-Agriculture stated that Iran's agricultural
sector is in a good position in the field of nanotechnology and biotechnology,
and emphasized that: We need imports to supply high-yield livestock inputs such
as corn, barley and soybean meal, and we have good export capacity in the
fields of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and milk exports. So far,
Iranian farmed shrimp and caviar have been exported to Switzerland.
Sadati Nejad mentioned about two investment projects in the
northern and southern regions of Iran, and stated that: The northern project is
related to rice production, with the investment of Switzerland we can increase
production to 1.2 million tons, and in southern Iran and Khuzestan province is
a grain production project at the level of 250,000 hectares, which need about $
2 billion investment in each of these projects.
Swiss readiness to import agricultural products from Iran:
In the meeting, President of the Swiss National Council
stated that: There is a great diversity in the field of agriculture in Iran. Andreas
Aebi, President of the Swiss National Council, Switzerland has good
universities in the field of agriculture and has created a kind of dual
education.
In relation to
agricultural products in Switzerland, he stated that 55% of Switzerland's
demand for agricultural products is produced domestically, and 45% is imported,
so we can import pistachios, saffron, dates and other agricultural products
from Iran.
President of the
Swiss National Council also mentioned that: Memorandum of Understanding on
pesticides and meat production was signed with Iran to cooperate in these
fields. He then added: Switzerland is one of the most successful countries in
livestock development and there is a lot of potential in this area, and we will
encourage agricultural experts in Switzerland to expand relationships in the
future with Iran.
