About The Ministry of Agriculture-Jahad

Agriculture sector deserves authentic position in boosting national independency, rising rural development, enhancing Food–Security and promoting national health. The sector widely enjoys climatic diversity and rich reserves for generating productive occupation, comparative advantage in production and exporting surplus products to local and foreign markets.

Agriculture sector displayed substantive indicators over the past years e. g. 14% share in G.D.P., 20% in employment and over 80% in foodstuff production for domestic consumption. These advantages are significantly remarked for productions, occupation, exportation and rational exploitation of natural resources supported by scientific research as well as people’s participation across the nation.

Now the sector has taken the lead for higher yield and quality production followed by enhancing rural status, preventing migration trend and generating socio-economic justice at national scale. All these commitments have been anticipated within the framework of the 5-Year National Development Plans supported by policy–makers in favor of socio–economic promotion nation-wide.

During the past years, agriculture sector has experienced profound changes and prosperities in many areas but however, invasion of many challenges including natural disasters i.e. severe drought and flooding have intensified the situation and stagnated proper growth and progression of the sector.

During 2013-14, agronomic crops covered around 11.84 m. ha of which cereals (72.2%), pulses (6.7%), industrial crops (4.2%) vegetables (4.23%) , cash–crops (2.9%), fodder crops (8.6%) and others (0.86%) were having differential shares. The widest areas belonged to wheat (5.2%), barley (14.5%), alfalfa (5.4%), paddy (4.55%), chickpea (4.46%) and field corn (1.97%) and totally occupied 82% of agronomic cultivation area.

The subsector recorded 74 m. tons of varying productions over the same period. Amid all, cereals (23.7%), pulses (0.83%), industrial crops (16%), vegetables (21.9%), cash–crops (12.5%) fodder-crops (24.9%) and others (0.2%), demonstrated remarkable yields. The highest performance practiced by wheat (14.3%) and the least realized by barley (4%). In total, 75% of agronomic crops accumulate under 9 main products.

Agronomic farms

During 2013-14, agro-crops covered 11.8% m. ha. Composing irrigated (51.8%) and rain-fed forms (48.2%). Over the period, Khuzestan province posed greatest share in farming area (8.85%) followed by Kermanshah (6.9%) and Fars (6.76%), whereas Alborz secured the least area (0.36%) among all.

Most irrigated farms were seen in Khuzestan province (13.6%) followed by Fars (9.96%) and Khorasan Razavi (8.3%) who totally cover 31.8% of irrigated plots in the country. Meanwhile, three provinces i.e. Kohkiluye , Alborz and Yazd deserved the least performances (0.7%) during the year.

Rain-fed areas were dispersed in Kordestan (11.7%), Kermanshah (10.7%) and E–Azarbaijan (7.93%) and totally cover 30.3% of such farms.

Production:

The subsector realized 74m. Tons of varying crops whose most share (92%) cultivated in irrigated the rest harvested from rain-fed farms. Khuzestan province solely produces one third of total agronomic crops (17.4%) followed by Fars (8.8%) and Khorasan Razavi (6.2%). Few provinces including Kohkiluye (0.4%), Qom (0.43%) and Khorasan Jonubi (0.63%) had their least contribution in production.
