Iran unveils new economic framework amid exceptional conditions
Tehran - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a more coordinated and agile approach to economic governance as the government works to safeguard market stability and strengthen economic resilience under exceptional conditions.
At a meeting of the Government Economic Coordination Headquarters, senior economic officials reviewed developments in the foreign exchange market, government revenues and expenditures, foreign trade and the supply of essential goods.
Participants stressed closer coordination among economic institutions, active market management and the targeted use of available resources to maintain stability and strengthen the economy’s resilience, according to a report carried by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance presented a report on the government’s fiscal position, highlighting the impact of wartime conditions and changes in oil and tax revenues. It called for more effective resource management, greater fiscal-policy coordination and mechanisms tailored to the new economic environment.
The Plan and Budget Organization also presented a seven-point package aimed at improving economic policy coordination and helping the country navigate emerging constraints more effectively.
The meeting also focused on recent foreign exchange market volatility, with officials examining supply and demand factors and policy requirements. They emphasized closer coordination of exchange-rate, trade and fiscal policies, management of market expectations, continued access to foreign currency for productive sectors, and proactive policymaking.
