African investors explore opportunities in Iran’s Khuzestan
Khuzestan - An African investment delegation has explored trade and investment opportunities in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province, focusing on energy, agriculture, industry and infrastructure.
Shahla Amouri, head of the Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, said the talks aimed to identify areas for expanding trade and investment ties with African businesses.
She highlighted Khuzestan’s strategic role in Iran’s energy sector, noting that the province holds around 75% of the country’s oil and gas reserves and is home to 27 major petrochemical companies. "Its access to export ports also creates opportunities for investment in petroleum products and downstream industries."
Amouri also pointed to Khuzestan’s extensive transport links, including road, rail, air and sea routes, as well as two land border crossings with Iraq and three international airports. The Arvand Free Zone was also presented as an investment opportunity.
"Agriculture offers further potential, with Khuzestan ranking among Iran’s leading producers of wheat, sugar, ornamental plants and horticultural products. The province also produces 74 varieties of dates and has plans to expand warm-water aquaculture and cage fish farming."
Amouri said Dezful’s vegetable production could support direct exports to markets such as Russia, while Khuzestan’s steel and cement industries and more than 700 parts-manufacturing and related companies provide a strong industrial base for investment.
