Tehran — The director general of the Environment and Sustainable Development Office at the Ministry of Agricultural says identification codes have been issued for 600 agricultural products so far, as part of an ongoing drive to assign ID codes to such goods.

 

Reza Bahramlou, referring to mandates under the Seventh Development Plan to build a system for identifying and tracing agricultural products, said that under the product ID scheme, strategic and staple crops were covered first, followed by horticultural, field, and greenhouse products, a process that is still under way.

 

The official said field crops including potatoes and garlic, along with five horticultural products — saffron, pistachios, kiwifruit, greenhouse tomatoes, and edible button mushrooms — are among the products whose ID registration has begun and is in progress.

 

He noted that nearly 600 QR codes have been issued for field, horticultural, and greenhouse products since the scheme was launched.

 

Bahramlou added that consumers have the right to know how a product was produced, and that the ID code both strengthens trust in the product and its producer and helps boost exports.
