Iran onion exports from south to Türkiye hit 8,300 tons
Shiraz – A senior agricultural official in the southern Fars Province has confirmed that 8,300 tons of onions have been exported to Turkey over the past two months, with the export drive expected to persist through the end of September as the harvest season winds down.
Ahad Behjat Haqiqi, head of the Fars Province Agricultural Organization, said on Monday that 366 consignments were dispatched to the Turkish market during July and August.
Each shipment, he noted, cleared stringent plant health and quarantine protocols and fully satisfied Turkey's sanitary import requirements.
"All exports underwent exhaustive health and quarantine checks, backed by continuous monitoring that included both field inspections and laboratory analyses," the official said, reiterating the province's commitment to upholding international health standards in agricultural trade.
While reaffirming the organization's full backing for overseas shipments, the Haqiqi struck a cautionary note, insisting that export consignments must rigorously conform to the health and quarantine mandates of the recipient country.
Looking ahead, the official confirmed that onion exports will roll on through the remainder of the harvest period, with domestic supply needs given top priority.
The export window, he added, is slated to remain open until late September.
