Ilam – The head of the Agricultural Office in Dehloran, the western province of Ilam, announced the successful cultivation of roselle (hibiscus sabdariffa) as part of an initiative to diversify cropping patterns and introduce climate-resilient, high-value crops to the region.

 

According to Jalal Yousefi, technical evaluations show that roselle has exhibited strong, healthy growth in Dehloran’s climate, confirming its potential for wider cultivation across the county.

 

Known locally as chai-e torsh (Sour Tea) and commonly referred to as red or Makki tea, roselle is valued not only for its economic return but also for its notable medicinal benefits. The crop is widely used to help lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve liver function, and reduce cholesterol—factors that support its growing market appeal.

 

Yousefi emphasized that identifying and promoting diverse, climate-compatible crops remains a core priority for Dehloran’s Agricultural Office, and roselle has already emerged as one of the most promising options.
