Iran, Norway can open new chapter in fisheries cooperation: IFO head
Tehran - Iran and Norway are set to deepen their cooperation in the fisheries sector, focusing on technical exchange, joint investment, and expanded private-sector partnerships, according to the head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization.
In a meeting with Alireza Jahangiri, Iran’s new ambassador to Norway, Hamzeh Rostampour discussed ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration in areas such as aquaculture, fish processing, and marine technology transfer.
He praised Norway’s global leadership in cage aquaculture technology and its influential role within the European Union, describing these strengths as a foundation for new, specialized partnerships between the two nations.
Rostampour outlined Iran’s diverse fisheries potential—from shrimp farming and trout processing to importing modern equipment, joint investments in fish by-product industries, and technology modernization.
The IFO chief also expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Norwegian institutions through training programs and technical exchanges.
Both parties agreed to maintain close dialogue and facilitate direct engagement between Iranian and Norwegian business and research communities to help launch joint fisheries initiatives in the near future.
