Khuzestan’s aquaculture exports reach over 8 countries worldwide: Official
Ahvaz – Khuzestan southern province has exported 55,000 tons of locally produced aquaculture products to over eight countries under strict veterinary health supervision, a senior official announced.
Nasser Askari Fard, Director General of the Veterinary Organization of Khuzestan Province, said that specialized health monitoring of production and export processes falls under the authority of the national Veterinary Organization, with legal permits issued only after rigorous sampling and testing.
"Last year, 55,000 tons of fish and shrimp produced in Khuzestan were exported to Turkey, Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Lebanon under veterinary health oversight," Askari Fard explained. He added that additional shipments reached East Asian countries via the ports of other provinces.
The director general emphasized that improving quality and health standards is key to sustaining exports of raw animal products. "This has been achieved through the dedicated efforts of the province's veterinary experts," he said.
Askari Fard noted that health supervision of export consignments is a core regulatory duty, involving microbial, chemical, and organoleptic testing of all shipments.
"Khuzestan Province is a major hub for aquaculture production and exports," he concluded. "It plays a vital role in ensuring national food security and generating foreign currency through non-oil products."
