The 8th regional meeting of the Western Eurasia road map, in
a collaborative work between world organization for animal health (OIE) and The
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with the aim of
controlling foot-and-mouth disease was held in Shiraz, with the presence of
veterinary presidents from 14 countries.

According to the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture Information
Centre, based on the Public Relations Department of the Veterinary Organization
of IRIB, Dr. Alireza Rafiee Pour, Head of the Veterinary Organization of Iran,
at the eighth regional meeting of the Western Eurasia Map for Controlling
Foot-and-Mouth Disease, told that “After eradicating the cow plague, which was
made in collaboration and partnership with all countries and planning of the
World Health Organization, Foot-and-Mouth Disease is the most dangerous disease
in the world, especially in the Eurasia region, which is causing severe damage
to the livestock industry and food security,

 thus controlling and
eradicating it can increase the livestock's income in hard times”. He also
mentioned that, in order to attain this goal, i.e. controlling and eradicating
foot-and mouth disease and cow plague, a step-by-step program was designed to
control these disease 10 years ago in Shiraz, and also told that “Today, again
in Shiraz, we are proud to continue to evaluate the progress made in order to
identify the necessary measures to control and eradicate the disease, and if
needed, make an up-to-date plan and work on an effective work plan for this
purpose.

In this meeting, representative of the European Commission
for the control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, a representative from FAO,
veterinary directors from neighboring countries, such as Turkey, Iraq,
Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia were also
present. It should be mentioned that alongside with this meeting, an exhibition
was also held in which some research institutes and domestic manufacturers that
are involved in the production and distribution of drugs associated with the
disease were present, and showed their products.
