Tehran – Iran is set to launch exports of cut chicken to Iraq and Afghanistan after securing official export approval, according to the head of the Iran Broiler Breeders Union.

 

Habib Asadollahnejad said the country produced around 137 million broiler chickens last month, leaving a surplus of at least 15 million birds available for export after meeting domestic demand.

 

He said the first export consignments are expected to be shipped by the end of this week or early next week, marking the resumption of poultry exports.

 

“Iraq and Afghanistan will be the initial destinations, with exports to Iraq consisting of cut chicken products to comply with the country's import requirements and market preferences.”

 

Asadollahnejad stressed that achieving sustainable poultry exports will require long-term planning, stable trade policies, and internationally recognized standards to strengthen cooperation between Iranian exporters and overseas buyers.

 

He also called for expanding exports to new markets, particularly in East Asia, to better utilize Iran’s production capacity and investment in the poultry sector.

 

Highlighting the need to modernize the industry, Asadollahnejad said digitizing the poultry supply chain would improve transparency, production management, and distribution while benefiting producers, consumers, and regulators alike.

 

He added that despite regional conflict and disruptions to maritime shipping routes, feed supplies remain stable and prices for some key inputs have continued to decline.
