Brasília – The Iranian Minister of Agriculture expressed his country's resolve to strengthen relations with the BRICS member states in different fields.

"Food security is a critical priority for all nations, but it holds particular significance for BRICS members who collectively represent a substantial portion of the world's population.

Given this reality, Iran's agricultural sector attaches special importance to BRICS cooperation, and we will be presenting concrete proposals to strengthen ties among member states,” Gholamreza Nouri — who is in Brazil for the BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Summit— said in a televised interview on Thursday.  

 

When asked about the tariff policies implemented by the Trump administration against several countries, the Iranian minister said, "Regional cooperation likely represents the most effective response to such measures, as it can help prevent unilateral actions by certain countries.

 The crucial point is that BRICS members have united at an opportune moment. Through collaboration within this group - which commands a significant share of both the global economy and world population - we can effectively neutralize these measures to a considerable degree."

 

Iran officially joined BRICS in January 2024, following acceptance as a full member alongside Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. BRICS, originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, now represents about 40% of the world’s population and a quarter of global GDP.
