Hamedan - The western province of Hamedan has strengthened its status as Iran’s leading producer of garlic and shallot, according to the head of the provincial Agriculture Organization.

 

Reza Bahramlou said roughly 3,500 hectares are under cultivation across the province, producing more than 60,000 tons of these crops each year.

 

“Asadabad County, with 100 hectares devoted specifically to shallot cultivation, has become the province’s specialized production center. Its favorable climate and high-quality soil give Asadabad’s shallots a distinctive aroma and exceptional taste,” he said.

 

Bahramlou emphasized the high nutritional value of Hamedan garlic, noting that it is rich in vitamin C, folic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and B-group vitamins—making it an important contributor to public health and immune system strength.

 

He added that safeguarding and expanding garlic and shallot cultivation, boosting productivity, improving production standards, and increasing exports are among the top priorities for the province’s agricultural sector.
