Bushehr province harvests over 30,000 tons of shrimp in one year
Bushehr - The southern Bushehr Province has recorded a shrimp harvest exceeding 30,000 tons this year, a significant rise from last year’s 17,000 tons, when production was affected by disease outbreaks.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s official website, quoting Aqil Amini, Director General of Bushehr Fisheries, the province has 6,200 hectares of coastal land suitable for shrimp farming, with 1,987 hectares actively cultivated this year.
“Shrimp production is organized across 12 farming complexes and 351 farms, supported by 22 hatcheries that annually produce more than 2.7 billion larvae and juvenile shrimp. Of these, 2.4 billion were allocated to local farms, while around 300 million were sent to other provinces for cultivation.”
Amini further highlighted the shrimp industry’s pivotal role in driving production and employment, noting that modern farming methods and improved production structures are key to achieving Bushehr’s goals for a sustainable, sea-based economy.
