40m ornamental flowers, plants are produced in north of Iran each year: Official
Sari – The head of the Agricultural Organization in the northern Mahmoudabad County, Mazandaran Province, said the county produces about 40 million greenhouse-grown ornamental flowers and plants annually, underscoring its growing role in the horticulture sector.
Seyed Hossein Eslami said that rising market demand for off-season production of ornamental plants, as well as vegetables, has made greenhouse cultivation one of the most profitable branches of agriculture.
He explained that the annual output includes 40 million stems, plants, shrubs, and potted ornamental varieties, such as houseplants, cut flowers, seasonal blooms, and ornamental trees and shrubs, all supplied to domestic markets.
According to Eslami, this production consists of 28 million potted houseplants, 8 million cut flowers, 2 million ornamental trees and shrubs, and 2 million seasonal flowering plants.
He added that production takes place in 587 greenhouses covering a total area of 80 hectares across various parts of the county, operating under the supervision of three agricultural service centers.
