‘Iran prioritizes red meat self-sufficiency as national security imperative’
Tehran – Iran has declared self-sufficiency in red meat production a top national priority.
Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri made the announcement during an inspection tour of the National Animal Breeding and Livestock Improvement Center, where he paid tribute to fallen soldiers and hailed Iran's recent defensive successes.
"Recent assaults have proven that food security equals national security," he said, praising the resilience of Iran's livestock and poultry farmers.
The minister drew parallels to Gaza, where food supplies have become a weapon of war, underscoring the urgency of Iran's self-sufficiency drive.
Despite facing severe water shortages and soil degradation, Nouri outlined an ambitious roadmap to eliminate agricultural imports.
"Through cutting-edge research and homegrown innovation, we're turning scarcity into opportunity," he said, pointing to recent breakthroughs in animal husbandry and crop science.
