Tehran - Iran has proposed the establishment of a consortium of Islamic countries to coordinate responses to natural disasters, as Tehran seeks to deepen strategic cooperation with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS).

Gholamreza Golmohammadi, Iran’s deputy agriculture minister and head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), held talks with IOFS Secretary-General Berik Aryn in Astana, Kazakhstan, to explore avenues for expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Iranian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mahmoud Safari Farrokh also attended the meeting.

The discussions highlighted Iran’s initiative to establish a consortium of Islamic countries for natural disaster management, alongside calls for stronger scientific cooperation and the pooling of expertise and research capabilities to address regional crises.

The meeting formed part of Iran’s efforts to strengthen engagement with the IOFS and promote coordinated approaches to food security and disaster preparedness across Islamic countries.
