TEHRAN – Iran and Belarus are seeking to deepen scientific, technological and trade cooperation in agriculture, with a focus on technology transfer, knowledge-based companies and technical exchanges.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between Gholamreza Gol-Mohammadi, deputy agriculture minister and head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), and Belarusian Ambassador Dmitry Kaltsev.

Gol-Mohammadi said AREEO is ready to expand joint research and training programs, facilitate technology transfer and support Iranian knowledge-based companies in developing agricultural exports.

Kaltsev expressed Belarus’ interest in expanding agricultural trade with Iran, particularly cooperation with Iranian livestock and poultry producers on import and export opportunities.

The officials also discussed potential cooperation in food products, livestock, dairy, fertilizers and agricultural machinery.

Kamal Ghasemi-Bezdi, AREEO’s director general for scientific and international cooperation, said agricultural cooperation between the two countries had grown significantly over the past year. He highlighted AREEO’s capacity for joint research and technology-transfer projects, with 21 research institutes, 34 provincial centers and around 1,800 researchers.
