Iran exports nearly 50,000 tons of garlic to 32 countries in 2023

Iran exported nearly 50,000 tons of garlic worth $40 million to 32 countries in 2023, according to the head of the Market Monitoring and Development Office of the Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran.
Russia was the top destination for Iranian dried garlic exports, while Iraq was the main buyer of fresh garlic, Rouhollah Latifi said.
Iran's garlic exports increased by 65% in weight and 64% in value in 2023 compared to the previous year. The number of countries buying Iranian garlic also increased from 18 to 32, he added.
Of the total fresh and dried garlic exported, 25,643 tons worth $20 million and 121,931 were fresh garlic, which showed a 56% increase in weight and 55% in value. The number of countries buying this type of garlic increased from 13 to 17, Latifi said.
According to the report by IRNA, 24,188 tons of dried garlic worth $19 million and 181,639 were exported to 32 countries. This represents a 75% increase in weight and value compared to 2022, and the number of export destinations increased from 18 to 32 countries.
Iraq was the top destination for fresh garlic exports, with 10,590 tons. Afghanistan was the second largest buyer with 7,955 tons, followed by Russia (2,938 tons), Pakistan (1,947 tons), Armenia (512 tons), Azerbaijan (377 tons), UAE (343 tons), Turkmenistan (329 tons), and India (288 tons). Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kuwait, Turkey, Oman, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan were among the other buyers.
Russia was the top destination for Iranian dried garlic exports, with 8,311 tons purchased. Afghanistan was the second largest buyer with 5,165 tons, followed by India (3,873 tons), Iraq (2,567 tons), Pakistan (1,225 tons), Georgia (926 tons), UAE (373 tons), Lebanon (343 tons), Syria (235 tons),
Turkey (170 tons), Turkmenistan (159 tons), Uzbekistan (145 tons), Ukraine (113 tons), Tajikistan (94 tons), Armenia (89 tons), Azerbaijan (75 tons), Kuwait (73 tons), Albania (66 tons), Malaysia (41 tons), Oman (37 tons), Kazakhstan (33 tons), Sri Lanka and Serbia (22 tons each), Yugoslavia (21 tons), the UK (6 tons), Qatar (2.8 tons), Venezuela (929 kilograms), Canada (525 kilograms), Australia (431 kilograms), Sweden (115 kilograms), France (105 kilograms), and Italy (8 kilograms).
