Iran claims top spot in global dates’ exports

Bushehr – Iran has solidified its position as a global leader in the date industry, securing the top spot in global date exports last year.
This was announced by Mehdi Boroumandi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Horticultural Affairs, during a recent visit to Bushehr province.
Renowned for its vast date palm plantations, Bushehr province boasts an impressive 38,000 hectares of cultivated land. Despite this significant production capacity, less than a third of Iran's total date harvest is currently exported.
Boroumandi attributed Iran's success in the international date market to the exceptional quality and safety of its products.
“The country's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices, including minimal use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, has resulted in dates that are highly sought after by global consumers.”
To further bolster Iran's dominance in the global date market, the government is actively working to optimize the entire value chain for date palms, he added. “This includes strategic efforts to join the International Date Palm Council, a global organization dedicated to promoting the date industry.”
Iran's agricultural prowess extends beyond dates, with the country exporting a diverse range of products to over 200 countries worldwide. Notably, Iran exported 7,500 tons of pistachios to the European Union last year, showcasing its prominence in the global nut market.
