Tehran – Iran and Uzbekistan have signed four significant cooperation agreements to improve ties in the fields of agriculture, trade, and standardization. 

 

The signing ceremony took place in Tehran during an official visit by a high-level Uzbek delegation and was witnessed by Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, as reported by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.

 

A key outcome of the meeting was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dedicated to Plant Quarantine and Protection. This agreement, signed by Maryam Jalili-Moqadam, head of Iran's Plant Protection Organization, and his Uzbek counterpart, aims to streamline the exchange of agricultural goods, align plant health regulations, and elevate phytosanitary standards between the two countries.

 

Another MoU was inked concerning Halal standards between the heads of Iran's National Standards Organization and Uzbekistan's Agency for Technical Regulation.

 

To foster greater economic exchange, an Executive Protocol to the existing Preferential Trade Agreement was also signed by Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade. This protocol is designed to ease the path for increased bilateral commerce through preferential tariff arrangements.

 

Concluding the series of agreements, a comprehensive roadmap for intergovernmental cooperation spanning 2025-2027 was signed by the First Vice President of Iran and the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan. This strategic document lays out the framework for future collaboration across various specialized sectors, including agriculture, trade, technical services, and standardization, the report said.
