Camelina cultivation expanded to 7,000 hectares in Golestan: Official

Golestan – Camelina, a medicinal-oilseed plant, has been cultivated on nearly 7,000 hectares in Golestan province this year, marking a successful transfer of research from lab to farm, an official said.

The initiative, part of Iran's knowledge-based agricultural development policies, aims to make use of saline and low-yield lands.

During a visit to the Gonbad-e Kavus research station, Gholam Mohammadi, head of Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (TAT), said camelina's high tolerance to drought and salinity, low water needs, and economic viability make it ideal for sustainable farming and reducing edible oil imports.

The Gonbad-e Kavus station will be strengthened as a hub for camelina seed production and knowledge transfer to arid and saline regions across the country.
