Iran aims to boost olive exports via innovation, branding

Tehran - Iran is seeking to strengthen its position in the global olive market by investing in branding, processing industries, and modern technologies.

According to Karim Zolfaghari, Head of the Center for Agricultural Mechanization and Industries Development, Iran cultivates over 55,000 hectares of olive groves and produces about 94,000 tons annually, ranking 17th among 43 producing countries. The provinces of Zanjan, Fars, Gilan, and Qazvin account for most domestic production.

Zolfaghari highlighted recent achievements, including an Iranian company winning a gold medal at the Global Olive Oil Stars 2025 competition, reflecting the growing quality and global recognition of Iranian olive oil.

He added that exports of olive oil and canned olives exceeded 1,460 tons in 2024, reaching more than 20 countries.

Continued focus on innovation and value-added production, he said, will help expand Iran’s share in international markets.
