Rasht - Iran’s Inland Waters Aquaculture Research Institute is carrying out 28 research projects, including national programs focused on sustainable aquaculture and the conservation of commercially important fish species in the Caspian Sea, according to the institute director.

 

The institute is conducting projects in partnership with government agencies, research centers, and private-sector stakeholders, while also advancing breeding and stock restoration programs for endangered fish species, Mohammad Sayad Bourani said.

 

“Among its recent achievements, the institute successfully developed artificial breeding technology for the endangered Zardeh-Par fish after nearly 30 years of research. It also unveiled a VHS fish disease diagnostic kit and the fourth generation of Tata carp, a selectively bred strain now used in about 40% of Iran’s warm-water fish farms and capable of increasing farm profitability by up to 20%.”

 

Bourani said the institute’s research aims to strengthen sustainable aquaculture production, protect aquatic biodiversity, and improve the sector’s economic performance.
